The management of Al-Ettifaq Club has nearly completed negotiations with Greek coach Georgios Donis to take over the coaching duties of the first football team, replacing national coach Khaled Al-Atwi.

The club's management chose Donis due to his knowledge of the Saudi league from coaching Al-Hilal in the 2015 season.

Al-Ettifaq suffered much with Al-Atwi, with its results and levels declining in the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Professional Cup League, occupying 13th place with 10 points earned in the past ten rounds.
