Egyptian FA asks CAF to increase number of clubs participating in African competitions
The Egyptian Football Association announced on Thursday that it has submitted a formal request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to increase the number of clubs participating in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
In an official statement, the federation explained that Engineer Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, proposed granting each national association member of CAF an additional slot in the two continental competitions, with the slots to be distributed according to the classification criteria and regulations approved by CAF.

Currently, 62 clubs representing 50 local associations participate in the CAF Champions League, with the top 12 associations in the ranking receiving two slots in the tournament, while the remaining associations have one slot each. The same system applies to the CAF Confederation Cup. In the next edition of the CAF Champions League, Egypt will be represented by Zamalek, the league champion, and Pyramids, the runner-up, while Al Ahly, who finished the season in third place, will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup. The second Egyptian club to compete in the latter competition has not yet been determined.
