Barcelona, the Spanish league football champion, signed on Thursday German international striker Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund for 29 million euros ($33 million) including potential additional incentives, according to reports.

Barcelona said in a statement: 'Adeyemi has become a new player for Barcelona for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2031.'

The 24-year-old versatile player becomes Barcelona's second signing after spending a large amount to sign English international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

Adeyemi, known for his great speed and capable of playing as a striker or on either wing, strengthens Barcelona's attacking options after the departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona also lost the services of English international Marcus Rashford after the end of his loan spell from Manchester United, leaving the team in an attacking deficiency situation.

The Spanish champions also made an offer to Atletico Madrid to sign Argentine international striker Julian Alvarez, who is considered the club's main target during the current summer transfer window.

Barcelona's German coach, Hansi Flick, had given Adeyemi his first match with the German national team in 2021.

The striker joined Dortmund in 2022 from Austrian side Salzburg, scoring 36 goals in 146 matches in various competitions over 4 seasons before his move to Barcelona.
