Aymeric Laporte, the defender of Athletic Bilbao, has agreed to join Barcelona during the current summer transfer window, to support the Catalan club in defense.

Laporte shone clearly with the Spain national team in the 2026 World Cup, and was among the reasons for La Roja winning their second world title.

This brilliance prompted the Catalan club to move in order to attract Laporte (32 years old) to the ranks of Barça.

Many Spanish media outlets reported on Tuesday that Barcelona will not need to negotiate with Athletic Bilbao, due to a release clause in Laporte's contract worth only 15 million euros.

Catalan channel Esport3 indicated that Laporte is indeed interested in moving to Barcelona in the new season.

It added that those close to Laporte revealed to Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, the player's agreement to join the Blaugrana this summer.
