Portuguese Jose Mourinho, head coach of Real Madrid's first football team, explained on Friday that he is on a mission to establish the right culture within the royal club during his second stint at the helm of the coaching staff of last season's La Liga runner-up. Mourinho told Real Madrid TV: 'Words alone are not enough, because it is like a mission. I am not worried about myself, or whether I will win a lot or a little. I am here to help everyone be better, players and coaching staff, to create a culture of work, responsibility and ambition, in addition to something I know well: the responsibility and honor of working for Real Madrid.' The Portuguese coach, aged 63, added: 'It is not just about working at Real Madrid, but working for Real Madrid, with this spirit based on the sense of the magnitude of the mission. That is why I am here.' Mourinho was present at the club's training center to oversee preparations for the start of pre-season next week, after being appointed coach in June, replacing Alvaro Arbeloa. The 'Royal Club' has failed to win any major title in the past two seasons, and Mourinho's appointment is widely seen as an attempt by President Florentino Perez to restore order and discipline to the dressing room. Last season saw difficulties in managing star players with strong personalities, as coach Xabi Alonso left his post in January, and a dispute broke out between Frenchman Aurelien Tchouameni and Uruguayan Fede Valverde, midfielders, which led to the latter being taken to hospital. Neither Alonso nor Arbeloa managed to find a formula that allowed French star Kylian Mbappe, Englishman Jude Bellingham, and Brazilian Vinicius Junior to play together effectively without the team losing its balance. During his first stint between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho helped enhance Real Madrid's ability to compete with the strong Barcelona led by Pep Guardiola. The 15-time European champion has made several summer signings, including Spaniard Marc Cucurella, Portuguese Bernardo Silva, Dutchman Denzel Dumfries, and Frenchman Ibrahima Konate.
