The Catalan club explained that the 29-year-old player 'will continue his treatment under medical supervision in the coming weeks according to the evolution of his condition.' Frenkie de Jong clarified on Instagram, in response to many speculations about his health, that he injured his knee during his participation in the World Cup with the Netherlands national team. The Dutchman stated: 'After the initial tests, the doctors (of the Dutch national team) told me the injury was minor and would not worsen if I continued playing.' However, tests conducted by Barcelona's medical staff upon his return from vacation 'revealed that the injury is more serious than initially expected,' according to De Jong, adding that no surgical intervention is necessary at this stage.
The midfielder played in his country's four matches in the 2026 World Cup until elimination in the round of 16 against Morocco on penalties on June 29.
The 'Blaugrana' player was sidelined for several weeks last season between the end of February and mid-April due to an injury sustained during training in the distal biceps femoris muscle of his right leg.
