(CNN)-- Omar Marmoush sent a message of thanks to the Egyptian fans for their support and backing of the national team during its campaign in the 2026 World Cup.

The 'Pharaohs' bid farewell to the World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in the round of 16 after losing to defending champions Argentina.

Marmoush, who played in five matches in the current tournament, wrote on his Instagram account on Friday: 'No one represents their country without leaving a piece of their heart on the pitch, and there is no greater honor than representing Egypt. We are a generation that still has a lot to give, and we will keep working to raise Egypt's name and take it to the place it deserves.'

Marmoush added, addressing the fans of the 'Pharaohs': 'Thank you to everyone who supported, criticized, and believed. We are coming back stronger, O Mother of the World.'
