Russia and China used their veto power in the UN Security Council on Friday, blocking international efforts to discuss the repercussions of Iran's nuclear program during a council session.

The U.S. representative to the Security Council sharply criticized the Russian-Chinese stance, saying: "We reject Russia and China preventing discussion of the Iran nuclear file; member states have the right to discuss this file."

In the same context, the United Nations called on all parties to work toward a constructive solution on this matter.

For his part, the French representative to the Security Council stressed that Iran must ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without conditions, cease support for armed groups, and stop efforts to destabilize the region.

As for Bahrain's representative to the Security Council, he emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to be reflected in Iran's actual behavior, noting that Tehran resumed its attacks immediately after signing the memorandum of understanding. He pointed out that any diplomatic progress would be futile unless Iran cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

It is noteworthy that a number of countries had earlier called for placing the Iran nuclear file on the agenda of the UN Security Council.
