The US Army announced on Sunday that one of its soldiers was killed and another suffered minor injuries during the detonation of ammunition from an Iranian drone in northern Iraq.

This came in a statement by US Central Command (CENTCOM) on its account on the American platform 'X'.

The command explained that the incident occurred on Saturday, during the detonation of unexploded ammunition from an Iranian drone that was shot down in northern Iraq.

CENTCOM also referred to its announcement on Saturday about the deaths of two soldiers and the loss of a third following an Iranian attack targeting a US base in Jordan on Friday.

It indicated that on Sunday morning, 'human remains' whose identity has not yet been determined were found at the attack site, after extensive search operations conducted by US soldiers.

It added that the examination of the remains is ongoing to determine their identity.

On Saturday, CENTCOM announced the deaths of two US soldiers and the loss of a third on Friday in Jordan, while repelling Iranian attacks with ballistic missiles and drones.

The confrontation between Washington and Tehran entered its second week, after US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire stipulated in the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18, 2026 had ended.

Trump's announcement came after Iran targeted three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic waterway, while Washington demands what it says is ensuring freedom of navigation and its security in the strait.

The escalation has disrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, threatened air traffic and energy supplies, amid intermittent closures of airspace and warnings of targeting US facilities and interests outside the Middle East.
