The US military announced on Wednesday the launch of a second wave of strikes against Iran.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) clarified in a statement: "At 3:00 PM Eastern Time, US forces launched operations as part of the second wave of strikes today against Iran."

The statement added: "The strikes target Iranian military capabilities used to threaten ships freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international waterway for global trade."

The US military affirmed that it is holding Iran accountable based on the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Earlier Wednesday, the US military announced that it had begun a new wave of airstrikes on Iran at 6:00 AM Eastern Time (10:00 AM GMT).

The US Central Command said in a statement on platform X: "The strikes aim to further weaken the military capabilities used by Iranian forces to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz."
