(CNN)-- Iran's health ministry said Wednesday that US attacks on Iran have killed at least 53 people since the start of July, amid escalating violence this month.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted the health ministry as saying about 600 others have been injured in Iran.

Washington escalated its attacks on Iran earlier this month after Tehran targeted several commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that has become a pressure point in the thorny negotiations between the warring parties.

The Pentagon announced at least three US soldiers were killed in separate Iranian attacks in the region over the weekend.

The US also found unidentified remains in Jordan after a US soldier was reported missing in operations.

US President Donald Trump threatened Wednesday that the US will bomb and destroy a bridge or a power plant every time Iran targets a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump wrote on Truth Social: "From now on, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran targets a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether with a shell, missile, drone, or any other weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy a bridge or a power plant."

Trump added that targeting will include plants and bridges "located inside or near the capital Tehran."

It is worth noting that the Strait of Hormuz was completely open to free and safe passage before the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran in February at the start of the conflict. Iran considers control of this waterway its most important bargaining chip in negotiations, and has repeatedly fired in recent weeks at ships it said had not contacted Iranian authorities before crossing.
