Iranian state television reported on Wednesday that explosions were heard in 3 cities in the south and southwest of the country, as tensions escalate between Washington and Tehran.

The Iranian television said that explosions were heard in the cities of Ahvaz and Ramshir in Khuzestan province (southwest).

It added that explosions were also reported in the city of Sirik in Hormozgan province (south).

This comes hours after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb infrastructure sites in Iran, including bridges and power plants, in response to any attack that Tehran might launch on ships or navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said in a post on his platform 'Truth Social': 'As of now, if the Islamic Republic of Iran fires on any ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether with a missile, projectile, drone, or any other means, the United States will bomb and destroy a bridge or power plant, including those located in or near the capital Tehran'.

Trump's remarks come after he announced the killing of three additional US soldiers in attacks he said Iran launched in recent days on US bases in the Middle East, bringing the total number of US military deaths in the ongoing escalation with Iran to 18 soldiers.
