Samsung has officially announced a partnership with AI-specialized Perplexity, making it the second intelligent agent in the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, alongside Gemini.

The Perplexity service will be integrated into next-generation features, with the ability to summon it via a custom phrase like “Hey Plexy,” and it will also be accessible through the side power button; long-pressing the button will launch Perplexity in a manner similar to Gemini.

Deep System Integration

Information indicates that the Perplexity app may come pre-installed on Galaxy S26 phones, allowing users to use its features immediately after turning on the device. The One UI 8.5 beta 5 update also showed that Perplexity now supports Bixby assistant, with a comprehensive redesign of Bixby's interface and improved capabilities.

According to hands-on tests, Bixby’s results now display formatted answers powered by the Perplexity engine, raising the possibility that the new agent may be integrated into Bixby instead of launching a fully independent voice app. Users can already set Bixby to work via long-pressing the power button.

App-Level Access

Perplexity will gain system-level permissions, including core Samsung apps such as:

Notes

Clock

Gallery

Reminder

Calendar

In addition to supporting third-party apps. Examples of uses include drafting a ready-to-send email, searching for nearby restaurants, and performing multiple tasks within the system.

What About Gemini?

Samsung confirmed that Gemini will remain the primary partner, with continued close collaboration with Google to deliver additional features. The company explained that adopting two intelligent agents aims to give users multiple options and improve the user experience.

More details about the Samsung-Perplexity partnership are expected to be revealed during the Unpacked event scheduled for February 25.
