Iranian President Calls on Ministers to Avoid Inflammatory Statements
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on his cabinet members on Wednesday to avoid statements that could provoke discord, stressing that national unity is the cornerstone for facing challenges and thwarting what he described as 'the enemies' objectives.'
A statement from the Iranian presidency said that Pezeshkian, chairing a cabinet meeting, emphasized the importance of internal cohesion and coordination among executive bodies, affirming that enhanced cooperation contributes to improving public services, responding to citizens' demands, and raising the efficiency of government performance.
The Iranian president pointed out that protecting social capital is a shared responsibility, highlighting the legitimacy of citizens' demands and the priority of maintaining national cohesion at the current stage.
Religious Statements and Warnings Against Negotiation
Meanwhile, the head of Iran's seminaries, Ali Reza Arafi, in a statement carried by Tasnim news agency, called on the president and officials to consider the memorandum of understanding with Washington 'expired,' emphasizing the need to follow 'the path of jihad and steadfastness' and not to compromise the legitimate rights of the Islamic nation.
Arafi added that demanding 'revenge and retribution for the martyred leader' is 'inevitable and definitive' and is not tied to changes in governments, asserting that this path will be achieved internationally through the efforts of those he described as 'the free people of the world.'
US Escalation and Closure of the Strait of Hormuz
In a related context, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday reimposed a naval blockade on all Iranian ports and threatened to strike power plants and bridges next week if Tehran does not resume negotiations, in a new escalation of the crisis between the two countries.
The United States, according to the US military, announced a new wave of strikes aimed at 'weakening Iranian capabilities' used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
It is noteworthy that Tehran closed the strait again after renewed fighting with the United States last week, further undermining the fragile truce brokered in June, following months of fighting that claimed thousands of lives.
